I actually found Brave to be an odd hybrid of a Pixar movie with a heavy Disney influence. Set in Scotland, Brave is a different sort of Disney movie because it is about the relationship between a strong-willed, stick-to-tradition mother and a free-spirited, break-from-tradition daughter. She doesn’t want to be pushed into marrying just because tradition says she should. Merida, Pixar’s first princess, is a fiery redhead with wild curly locks. And, much to her mother’s chagrin, she always forgets to keep her weapon off the dinner table. Now, it is Brave’s Princess Merida who just happens to be an expert archer. Is archery is the new girl power skill? First, it was Katniss from The Hunger Games who was a whiz with the bow and arrow. ‘Brave’ features Pixar’s first female protagonist.
